User Centered Requirements Engineering

Participants will learn how to derive user needs from usage scenarios and to verify them in the field successfully and convincingly according to the INVEST principle. Additionally, the training demonstrates how verified user needs are converted into robust user requirements in the form of agilely plannable user stories. It will also be shown how user stories can be split into self-explanatory and independently developable units, thereby reducing project risks and prioritization efforts.

Who is this training for?

Interested parties who wish to acquire further competencies in this subject. Good prior knowledge of requirements management or product management is required, but no prior knowledge of UX or GenAI is necessary.

Why this training

User stories are often confused with feature requests or are – even worse – mere descriptions of work orders. When user stories are developed along a human-centered process and their quality meets a certain minimum standard, the resulting product and project management can also benefit, as fewer misunderstandings and costly development errors occur.

  • Analysis of an exemplary usage scenario and derivation of user needs
  • Verification of user needs based on user research findings
  • Writing user stories based on verified user needs
  • Checking the quality and "readiness" of user stories
  • Formulation of automatically measurable user acceptance criteria as a supplement to the often non-automatically measurable PO acceptance criteria

Methodology

  • Alternating between theoretical, demonstration, and practical parts
  • Practical parts alternate between individual and group tasks
  • Online workshop in FigJam
  • Use of the training tools mentioned in the prerequisites for the direct application of knowledge during and beyond the training

As always, it depends on the combination of the right tools at the right time; otherwise, only fragmented results are produced that do not contribute to a common goal. The training teaches how to link complex AI toolchains along the UX process using a low-code environment for various problem statements, enabling them to solve complex problems automatically, reproducibly, and in a way that is accessible to other colleagues or further toolchains.
