API Design and Development

Jeff Bezos once said: "Amazon must be an API-first company!" and implemented this vision more than successfully. But what is an API anyway, and how do you design or develop an API within your own corporate context? This training provides answers and is aimed at participants who want to make their solutions maximally usable for all colleagues, including software engineers and low-coders.

Who is this training for?

Interested parties who wish to acquire further competencies in this subject. Very good knowledge of low-code is required.

Why this training

APIs are like a remote control for software. Those who can develop and provide them themselves offer their colleagues the opportunity to use the corresponding solutions at any point in the value creation process. This increases synergy effects within the group, avoids double or multiple implementations of solutions, and therefore saves time and costs in the long run.

  • Introduction to webhooks and curl commands
  • Differences between POST, GET, PATCH, and UPDATE requests
  • Differences between Push vs. Pull models as well as HTTP SSE and Websockets
  • Advantages and disadvantages of REST APIs vs. GraphQL APIs
  • Automated documentation of APIs using Swagger (OpenAPI)
  • Introduction to Apollo GraphQL Playgrounds for knowledge graph-based queries

Methodology

  • Alternating between theory, demonstration, and practical sections
  • Practical sections alternate between individual and group tasks
  • Online workshop in FigJam
  • Use of the training tools mentioned in the prerequisites for direct application of knowledge during and beyond the training

Even if a certain level of competence in using ChatGPT, Claude, Midjourney, or other GenAI tools seems to have developed by now: in the end, a single model never solves the underlying problem on its own. As always, it depends on the combination of the right tools at the right time; otherwise, only fragmented results are produced that do not contribute to a common goal. The training teaches how to link complex AI toolchains along the UX process using a low-code environment for various problem statements, enabling them to solve complex problems automatically, reproducibly, and in a way that is accessible to other colleagues or further toolchains.
