GamFed, the world’s first official gamification association, was founded in 2013. Over the years, the community has continued to grow, and there are now so-called GamFed Ambassadors distributed across the globe. These ambassadors represent GamFed in their respective countries, communicate the results developed by the GamFed committee to the outside world, and thus also represent its values regarding gamification.
One of these GamFed Ambassadors is Ercan Altug Yilmaz for Turkey. There he organizes the annual GamFed Meetup event, which this year takes place on June 2, 2019 in Istanbul. Experts and interested participants come together there to discuss the dos and don’ts of the industry, examine new methods, and deepen them in workshops.
Centigrade at GamFed 2019
Today, in 2019, this educational work has lost none of its importance. Due to the popularity of the topic, it is more necessary than ever. Too often, gamification — and thus the consideration of the human being in play — is still misunderstood as merely rewarding people with points or badges and establishing simple competition. In the best case, this leads to ineffective solutions; in the worst case, to counterproductive ones that place people in unhealthy competition with one another.
Correcting this way of thinking and presenting gamification in the right light will be Roman Rackwitz’s mission at GamFed in Istanbul.
